The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) will structure its disciplinary framework around the first-level discipline of "Materials Science and Engineering", focusing on key research areas such as functional materials, energy materials, new metallic materials, and intelligently manufactured materials and components. The school aims to cultivate high-level and internationally competitive leaders in science and engineering, while generating research outcomes with significant global academic and industrial impact. Throughout this process, the school will emphasize enabling faculty members and students to master a solid foundation in materials science theories, to pursue continuous inquiry into frontier knowledge, to develop pioneering materials technologies, and to strengthen the discipline’s practical and innovative capacities. It strives to become a research platform for multidisciplinary integration and broad social service functions.
The school seeks to establish a world-class faculty team characterized by both theoretical depth and strong innovative and practical capabilities. This team will implement a comprehensive talent cultivation system spanning from undergraduate to doctoral levels. Simultaneously, the school will explore the integration of teaching, research, and social services, closely linking disciplinary development with societal progress. The school aims to break away from traditional patterns of discipline development and implement an innovative "Four-in-One" model that combines Discipline Platforms, Key Research Fields, Major Projects, and Innovation Teams. In this way, the school will forge a new path with unique Chinese characteristics and an international vision, facilitating the leapfrog development of the discipline and the rapid and efficient commercialization of research outcomes.
