The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) plans to develop its disciplinary framework around the first-level discipline of “Materials Science and Engineering”, with a focus on key research areas such as functional materials, energy materials, new metallic materials, and “smartly” manufactured materials and components. The school aims to cultivate future high-level and internationally competitive science and engineering leaders and produce research outcomes with significant global academic and industrial impact. In this process, the school will emphasize faculty members and students mastering a solid foundation of materials science theories, continuously researching and exploring frontier materials science knowledge, developing revolutionary new materials technologies, and enhancing the discipline’s practical abilities and innovation capabilities, striving to become a research platform for multidisciplinary integration and broad social service functions.
The school plans to build a world-class faculty team with both theoretical depth and strong innovation and practical capabilities. This team will implement a comprehensive talent cultivation system from undergraduate to doctoral levels. At the same time, the school will explore integrating teaching, research, and social services, tightly linking disciplinary development with societal progress. The school aims to break the traditional patterns of discipline development, and implement a innovative “Four-in-One” model combining Discipline Platform, Key Research Fields, Major Projects and Innovation teams. In this way, the school will carve out a new path with unique Chinese characteristics and international vision for the leapfrog development of discipline and the rapid and efficient commercialization of research outcomes.
