On September 12, 2025, the Opening Ceremony for FYUST’s incoming undergraduates was held at Mingde Hall. Cho Tak Wong, Chairman of the University Council; Wang Shuguo, President of FYUST; faculty and staff members, representatives from industry and government, delegates from partner institution Politecnico di Milano, and parents of students gathered together to witness this important milestone.

In his opening address, Chairman Cho Tak Wong looked back on the original vision behind founding FYUST as a philanthropic endeavor. He underscored that universities should be industry-oriented, application-driven, and future-focused. He expressed his hope that FYUST would become a research-oriented institution with science and engineering at its core, interdisciplinary integration as its pathway, and industrial application as its focus.

Chairman Cho Tak Wong expressed his hopes for the 50 freshmen, encouraging them to cherish their time and dedicate themselves to rigorous study, while calling on them to develop character and intellect, keep the world in mind, and remain grounded in their pursuit of excellence. “You should not only acquire knowledge, but also learn how to become responsible individuals; not only think critically, but also develop practical skills; not only contribute to the country, but also engage with the world.”

President Wang Shuguo delivered a keynote speech entitled “How to Become a Person with Responsibility and Compassion.” Encouraging FYUST’s first cohort of freshmen, he stressed that while students should master the knowledge and experience accumulated by previous generations, they should also strive to transcend existing boundaries of understanding. “In this remarkable era, you should stand at the forefront of change, innovate, explore new frontiers, and become pioneers and leaders in science and technology.”

Speaking on behalf of the faculty, Professor Shen Weiming, Dean of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Future Technologies, encouraged the students to pursue scholarship worthy of their generation and to grow into individuals of integrity, responsibility, and character. On behalf of all faculty members, he also made a commitment to the students and their families: “We will lead by example, uphold the principle of putting students first, and dedicate ourselves to helping every student unlock their potential and realize their dreams.”

Representing FYUST’s international partner, Professor Flavia Grassi, head of the delegation from Politecnico di Milano, extended her warmest congratulations to the students selected for the joint education program between the two universities. She encouraged the inaugural cohort by saying, “The road ahead will undoubtedly be challenging, but it is through embracing those challenges that you will grow into accomplished professionals and gain the unique benefits offered by the integration of the educational strengths of both Fuyao University of Science and Technology and Politecnico di Milano.”

With the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony, FYUST’s first undergraduate students officially embarked on a new journey—one that belongs not only to them, but also to FYUST. May they pursue their aspirations with bold courage, achieve their dreams at FYUST, and become the best versions of themselves.
