Supporting Enterprises’ High-Quality International Expansion: FYUST Officially Inaugurates HALAL Research and Certification Centers

Fuyao University of Science and Technology (FYUST) has taken a significant step forward in advancing the China–Indonesia “Two Countries, Two Parks” Science and Technological Innovation Center. Recently, the Global Development Research Institute at FYUST officially held an unveiling ceremony for the HALAL Research Center and the HALAL Certification Center. By providing Chinese enterprises with critical technical support and certification services, these centers will help Chinese companies expand into Muslim-majority markets, further deepen China–Indonesia cooperation across multiple sectors, and enhance regional economic connectivity.

HALAL standards constitute a system of requirements governing foods, products, and services that are permissible under Islamic law (Sharia). These standards are applied across multiple sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and supply chain management. HALAL certification is a key requirement for companies seeking to enter Muslim-majority markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

Cho Tak Wong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FYUST, stated at the unveiling ceremony that the HALAL Research Center and the HALAL Certification Center will play an important role in supporting international standards compliance, helping to advance both bilateral and multilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Indonesia.

Xu Fei, Executive Vice President of FYUST, noted that the two HALAL centers will serve as a comprehensive support platform to help Chinese enterprises expand globally. By focusing on HALAL standards research, testing, and certification services, regulatory alignment, and business incubation, the centers aim to foster the deep integration of scientific innovation and industrial applications, while better advancing international cooperation and industrial development.

Speaking via live video, Professor Antonio Vidal-Puig, Dean of the Global Development Research Institute at FYUST—as well as a Member of the Academia Europaea, a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians—further outlined the construction plans and future directions for the two HALAL centers.

The unveiling of the HALAL Research Center and the HALAL Certification Center marks a critical milestone in FYUST’s ongoing efforts to advance China-Indonesia scientific and technological cooperation under the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” framework. The China–Indonesia “Two Countries, Twin Parks” Scientific and Technological Innovation Center was officially launched in November 2025 as a joint initiative of FYUST, the Salim Group, and the Administrative Committee of the Yuanhong Functional Zone in Fuzhou New Area. Building on this momentum, in February 2026, FYUST spearheaded the launch of the China–Indonesia “U-B-U” (University–Business–University) cooperation mechanism as its core coordinating institution.

Moving forward, FYUST will leverage the establishment of the HALAL Research Center and the HALAL Certification Center as a catalyst to deepen cooperation with relevant Indonesian institutions in talent cultivation, scientific research, and industrial integration. The university will focus on the joint development of a “three-in-one” research and industrial service platform that integrates the research, certification, and inspection/testing centers to inject new momentum into the high-quality global expansion of Chinese enterprises and regional economic synergies.

Attending the unveiling ceremony were Cho Tak Wong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FYUST; Xu Fei, Executive Vice President of FYUST; Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, Vice Rector of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang; Elfi Anis Saati, Evaluation Expert at the Indonesian National HALAL Center; Dalia Elianani, Indonesian National HALAL Auditor; and Hu Xiangyu, President of the Danaher Corporation China Life Sciences Platform, along with dozens of representatives from relevant agencies in Fujian Province and Fuzhou City, as well as officials from FYUST.
