The Joint Research Lab on Small & Special Purpose Motors and Systems was established by Fuyao University of Technology and Zhejiang Shenglong Group for the preliminary R&D of small micro-motor-related products. It serves as a laboratory for motor design, optimization, prototype testing, and motor system parameter and performance testing, while also developing high-performance motor drivers and controllers. The laboratory aims to provide researchers with facilities for motor experiments and research, equipped with a series of modern equipment and tools to support researchers in their work on motors and related products.
The laboratory has a total investment of 20 million RMB, a construction period of 2 years, and an expected annual product output value of 300 million RMB. Covering a total area of 256 square meters, it includes 110 square meters of dedicated office space for experimental researchers and 146 square meters for development and testing rooms. It is equipped with modern testing equipment worth 2.713 million RMB, including dynamometers, power analyzers, and NVH ultra-low noise anechoic chambers, fully funded by Shenglong Group. The laboratory was officially put into use on September 28, 2024.
With the core mission of overcoming "bottleneck" technical challenges in high-end motor application fields, the laboratory focuses on the R&D of servomotors and their controllers. It provides technical support for Shenglong Group's new motor product development while also undertaking tasks for optimizing existing products, failure analysis, and performance enhancement, thereby promoting motor technology innovation and industrialization.
The laboratory innovatively adopts the "University-Enterprise-User-Benefit" four-in-one industry-university research model proposed by Mr. Cao. With Fuyao University of Technology as the resource and technology guide, Shenglong Group as the industrial upgrading entity, Fuyao Group as the end-user market, and the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Future Technologies as the beneficiary of achievements, it forms a closed-loop ecosystem of technology breakthroughs, product applications, and value sharing. Its first product, the "Vehicle Sunroof Electric Sunshade Motor System Assembly," has achieved an international innovation breakthrough, with an expected annual output value of 300 million RMB.
The laboratory boasts a strong scientific research team, led by Academician Shen Weiming as Chief Scientist, with 1 person in charge, 6 university faculty members holding dual positions, and 5 industry-academia dual-position researchers as core personnel. It also includes 10 graduate students participating in scientific research, building a research echelon of "academician-led, professor-headed, teacher-student collaborative, and university-enterprise linked." Currently, the laboratory has laid out ten major scientific research projects, covering electric control actuators for roller blinds, next-generation thermal management domain controllers, and millimeter-wave radar development for intelligent driving. It has applied for 4 national invention patents and 3 international invention patents, with multiple achievements approaching industrialization.
As a core carrier of industry-education integration, the laboratory provides students with a full-chain training platform from theoretical learning to practical innovation, enabling students to deeply participate in solving real industrial problems and achieving dual enhancement of innovation and practical capabilities. First, project-driven innovation cultivation: 10 graduate students are integrated into the research team to directly participate in actual scientific research projects, honing their technical R&D and problem-solving abilities. Second, dual-mentorship system: leveraging the theoretical advantages of university faculty and the industrial experience of Shenglong Group experts, students are assigned dual mentors to guide them in transforming classroom theory into industrially practical technology, while exposing them to cutting-edge industry technologies and process standards to broaden their innovative horizons. Third, full-process innovation practice: students conduct experiments, data collection, and analysis in a real research environment, accumulating innovative experience and cultivating engineering thinking and innovation awareness. Fourth, encouraging student achievement transformation: students are encouraged to participate in patent applications and technological innovation, allowing them to experience the industrial value of innovative achievements and stimulating their enthusiasm and initiative for innovation.
