On February 21, 2025, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of Fuyao University of Science and Technology (FYUST). According to the approval letter, FYUST is positioned as a new type of research university, with a strong focus on science, engineering, and technology. It emphasizes technological innovation in manufacturing and the cultivation of top-notch innovative talent. FYUST will actively explore a new model for research universities under the guiding mission of being high-caliber, compact and elite, research-driven, and globally oriented.
Founded through the initiative of Cho Tak Wong, Honorary Chairman for Life of Fuyao Group, FYUST is jointly supported by the Heren Charitable Foundation and the Fuzhou Municipal Government. It is a non-profit, public-interest private university offering undergraduate and postgraduate education.
FYUST currently comprises the School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Future Technologies, the School of Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Life and Health Sciences, the School of Digital Economy and Management, the School of Arts and Sciences, etc.
Dedicated to becoming a cradle for future scientists, entrepreneurs, and outstanding engineers, FYUST aims to cultivate innovative talent with social responsibility, sound character, humanistic values, scientific literacy, historical perspective, global vision, innovative spirit, and critical thinking skills. A comprehensive mentorship system will be implemented throughout the entire educational process. Academic mentors, career mentors, and industry mentors will work in synergy to provide individualized guidance, ensuring personalized education and supporting each student’s growth and development. In 2025, FYUST will enroll its first cohort of undergraduate students, who will have the flexibility to choose their majors based on their interests, personal strength, and career aspirations.
FYUST has already established a high-caliber and internationalized faculty team, including 15 academicians, 56 scientists ranked among the world’s top 2%, and 80 nationally recognized high-level talents. Currently, 71.2% of faculty members have overseas educational backgrounds or international teaching and research experience.
Marking a new stage in its development following the Ministry of Education’s official approval, FYUST is dedicated to building a high-caliber, compact and elite, research-driven, and globally oriented university—one that is rooted in Fujian, serves the country, and pioneers innovative pathways for a new type of research university with a global perspective.
