On July 6, 2025, a delegation led by Prof. Freddy Boey, Academician of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials and President of the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), and Dr. Fan Shiliang, Director of the National Intellectual Property Operation (Shenzhen Hetao) International Transformation Pilot Program, visited Fuyao University of Science and Technology (FYUST). The delegation met with Chairman Cho Tak Wong, President Wang Shuguo, Executive Vice President Xu Fei and Vice President Chen Jianqun to discuss potential cooperation and exchanges. Both sides expressed hopes of establishing future collaboration in talent cultivation and scientific research.

President Wang Shuguo welcomed Prof. Freddy Boey and his delegation and introduced FYUST’s positioning and mission as a new type of research university, its future development goals, and the university’s undergraduate admissions for 2025.

Prof. Freddy Boey introduced the distinctive features of CityUHK, including its funding model, development goals, and efforts in internationalization, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

According to Prof. Freddy Boey, during his tenure as Deputy President of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and later as President of CityUHK, he actively promoted initiatives aimed at bringing university innovations from the laboratory to the marketplace. He launched the Graduate Research Innovation Program (GRIP) at NUS and the Graduate Research and Innovation Trek Programme (GRIT) at CityU. Both initiatives closely integrate talent cultivation with high-tech entrepreneurship, transforming research patents into commercial products with social value.

President Wang Shuguo noted that the initiatives introduced by Prof. Freddy Boey at NUS and CityUHK align closely with FYUST’s educational philosophy in technology transfer and talent cultivation. He emphasized that scientific and technological innovation should respond to market needs, and that universities must engage directly with society and the wider world. In talent cultivation, academic research should be closely connected with industry needs while creating practical value for society through innovation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed expectations for deeper cooperation in the future. Representatives from FYUST are expected to visit CityUHK for further discussions on collaboration in talent cultivation, scientific research, and related areas.
