School of Arts and Sciences

The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) plays a very important role in talent cultivation. SAS will organise and implement the teaching and management of general education courses for all students, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, foreign languages, physical education, humanities and arts. SAS oversees the Department of Mathematics/ the Institute of Mathematics; the Department of Physics/ the Institute of Physics; the Department of Chemistry and Biology; the Centre of Languages and Humanities; the Physical Education Centre; and the Fundamental Science Experiment Centre. The Fundamental Science Experiment Centre runs laboratories for mechanics, electromagnetism, modern physics, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology.

Focusing on the overall goal of the University, SAS will take fostering students’ moral character as the fundamental task, dedicating to lay a profound foundation of mathematics and physics for students, cultivating student’ humanistic qualities, broadening students’ academic horizons, honing students’ strong practical abilities, and enhancing students’ unlimited development potential, laying a solid foundation for cultivating outstanding innovative talents. SAS will carry out basic research oriented towards the world’s scientific and technological frontiers and the major strategic demands of the country. SAS undertakes cutting-edge and innovative research that addresses the key questions in mathematics and physics. As a core FYUST unit, the School of Arts and Sciences sets its goal to become an influential institution where its top-notch faculty constantly make significant contributions to advancing human knowledge through their teaching and research.
